Irvin & Johnson Limited (I&J)
The roots of Irvin & Johnson Limited (I&J) are steeped in the history of South Africa's trawling industry. From its modest beginnings, Irvin & Johnson has established itself as South Africa's leading fishing company and multi-national processor and marketer of an extensive range of branded frozen and chilled convenience foods.
Situated in Cape Town, Irvin & Johnson's corporate Head Office is in the suburb of Woodstock, where we direct, co-ordinate and control all of Irvin & Johnson's major group functions such as fishing, processing and marketing.
Irvin & Johnson has its own research and development resource team
consisting of internationally-trained food technologists who keep abreast of latest international trends and carry out in-house development work for both local and international markets. The R&D department supports and maintains Irvin & Johnson's pre-eminent position in South Africa as the leading innovator in frozen food products and has internationally competitive technological skills.
Irvin & Johnson places strong emphasis on the development of new products to satisfy changing trends in consumer needs, as well as improvement of existing products and processes. Today, Irvin & Johnson supplies local and global retail and foodservice markets with an extensive range of premium quality frozen and chilled fish and seafood products under the Irvin & Johnson brand and for customer own-label brands. We also farm abalone on the Cape South coast which is exported fresh, dried or canned. As well as fishing, processing and marketing our own catches, we have a deep-rooted universal procurement network and
well-established international customer partnerships.
While Irvin & Johnson are specialists in fish and seafood, our 55 years of expertise in the frozen foods industry allows us to process or procure other proteins such as I&J branded value-added chicken and red meat products. Our wide range of these products is supplied to both retail and foodservice markets.
